As the polls opened in Homewood this morning for a City Council runoff, a surprising issue has been dominating social media this month in the usually idyllic suburb: homelessness.

First, it was a naked man bathing in Shades Creek. That prompted a social media post on Sept. 4 by Ward 3 candidate Chris Lane.

“Today, as their children were walking home from school, a man with little clothing on was reportedly bathing in the creek,” Lane wrote. “He had been seen bathing in the creek before and has been seen several times recently camping around Roseland, Broadway, and Kenilworth.”

Lane said it was a sign of a growing problem.
