BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) -- The Bertie County Sheriff's Office is expected to hold a press conference Tuesday afternoon regarding the recent arrest made in connection with the death of a child in December of 2024.

According to a statement made by Sheriff Tyrone M. Ruffin, the death of 2-year-old Jamie Drain was first brought to the attention of the sheriff's office on Dec. 2, 2024. Several months later, on Aug. 25, 2025, deputies stated the case will now be investigated as a homicide after receiving a copy of the autopsy report.
