EVANSVILLE – Investigators say an Evansville man facing a preliminary felony charge for reportedly lying on a form while purchasing a firearm "gifted" an 18-year-old the handgun that was later used in the shooting of an Evansville police officer.
Maurice Keith James Cobb, 25, was booked into the Vanderburgh County jail Monday evening. According to the probable cause affidavit filed by police, he faces a Level 6 felony charge of making a false statement on a consent form, as well as a misdemeanor count of unlawful carrying of a handgun.
Following the trail of the gun
The felony charge is tied to two other cases – the biggest being the early Sunday morning shooting of EPD probationary officer Sam Taylor.
