PARK RAPIDS, Minn. — There’s a new executive director at the Giiwedinong Treaty Rights and Culture Museum in Park Rapids.
Logan Monroe, 23, started the job on Sept. 2. He’s an enrolled member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe from the Sugar Point-Battle Point area on the east side of Leech Lake.
He didn’t expect to step into an educational role, Monroe said. At an early age, he was interested in working with animals, like a zookeeper or veterinarian. As he grew up, he became more interested in his culture, language and history as an Ojibwe person.
He said a lot of people encouraged him, particularly his mother, Leah Monroe, who works in Indigenous education.
