COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A Columbus woman who beat a 4-year-old to death in 2021 was sentenced Tuesday to decades in prison.

Michelle Hilyard, 52, was sentenced to 25 years to life after she was found guilty by a jury earlier this month on charges of aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and endangering children, prosecutors said.

Police were called May 26, 2021 to the 1000 block of Geers Avenue on Columbus' east side after a report that the 4-year-old, later identified as Bryson Brown, was unresponsive. Brown was taken to a hospital where he died.

Brown fell down the stairs after Hilyard hit him multiple times with a board, prosecutors said. The boy's father, who was dating Hilyard, found the child unresponsive in bed several hours later.
