As I prepare for the High Holy Days, I always listen to Barbra Streisand’s recording of my favorite prayer, “Avinu Malkeinu.” Though I am not fond of the actual translation, “Our Father Our King,” I am reminded of who I am and how I want to live my life through Streisand’s interpretation and words, “It asks God to have compassion for us and our children and to help bring an end to war and famine and cause all hate and oppression to vanish from the earth.”

It seems to me that now more than ever our community and country need to take these words to heart. With the increase in violence, the murder/assassination of Charlie Kirk and on the same day a 16-year-old opened fire at Evergreen High School I have been thinking of our language and how we interact with others.
