(Vermillion, SD) — A longtime University of South Dakota art professor is suing after being placed on leave over a controversial Facebook post about Charlie Kirk’s death. Michael Hook argues his comments are protected free speech and is asking the court to block USD and the Board of Regents from firing him. Hook’s post sparked outrage from state leaders, and university officials say they intend to terminate his employment. Hook has taught at USD for nearly 20 years.
