MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — For the first time, Mesa Public Schools is allowing for community input on its next budget.

The East Valley school district will host the public budget meeting on Wednesday evening in an effort to be more transparent.

Those who attend can learn about the budget process, see how funds are allocated and ask questions.

Last month, Arizona’s Family reported that the district projects a budget shortfall between $9 million and $18 million. It’s also seen an attendance drop and is facing possible job cuts.

A district spokesperson said it is working to avoid having to close any schools, like has been the case in some other Valley districts.

The in-person meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Mesa Public Schools’ governing board room on Stapley Drive .
