A 17-year-old driver is accused of running a red light in the city’s Riverdale neighbourhood Tuesday night and hitting a pedestrian, leaving the man fighting for his life.

Toronto Police say the collision occurred at Pape and Lipton Aves. – near the Pape TTC station just north of Danforth Ave. – around 8:20 p.m.

It’s believed the teenage boy was driving north on Pape Ave. when he struck a 24-year-old man crossing from the west to the east side of the street at Lipton Ave.

“The motor vehicle disobeyed a red traffic signal and struck the pedestrian,” police alleged in a statement released Wednesday.

Police said the pedestrian was taken to a hospital with “life-threatening injuries” and the investigation is ongoing.
