Bacteria that can cause Legionnaires’ disease was found at a General Motors Co. building in Metro Detroit, where two employees sick with the respiratory illness work, a spokesperson said Wednesday.
GM closed the Cole Engineering building on its Warren campus Sept. 11, when the Macomb County Health Department notified the company of two cases among its workers. No additional cases have been reported since then.
Tests confirmed the bacteria is in the building, spokesperson Tara Stewart Kuhnen said in a Wednesday statement.
“The building will remain closed through the remainder of the week as we work with our third-party experts and local health authorities to review the test data received from the lab,” she said. “We will develop and implement a detailed remediation plan for all affected
