The family of a Lakeshore High School football player injured in last week’s junior varsity game is sharing more about his condition and has set up a donation page for those asking how they can help.
Courtney Mims says her son, Colton, suffered two broken vertebrae after being jumped on while already down during last Thursday’s game against Kalamazoo Central. In a post on the family’s GoFundMe page, Mims said insurance will not cover all of the medical costs, including appointments, travel, and lost work time.
She added the family has been “overwhelmed” by the outpouring of support from the local community and beyond. The fundraiser is intended to help cover Colton’s recovery expenses, with donations also potentially going toward future opportunities, such as a college fund.
