NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Two people have died following two separate crashes in the Nebraska Panhandle.

According to the Nebraska State Patrol, troopers were called to a single-vehicle crash involving a Ford Explorer about 17 miles northwest of Scottsbluff on Highway 26 at 5:10 MT Tuesday.

The driver of the SUV was ejected from the vehicle and died. The passenger suffered serious injuries was flown to Regional West Medical Center.

As first responders were on scene, a secondary crash occurred about one mile east of the first crash.

Spokesperson for the Nebraska State Patrol, Cody Thomas, said a Morrill firefighter was directing traffic when a Chevrolet SUV failed to slow down as it approached the primary crash.
