Gabrielle is expected to deliver hurricane-force wind, heavy rain and massive waves to the Azores from late Thursday into Thursday night as the storm begins to unwind over the Atlantic, AccuWeather meteorologists warn. By this weekend, Gabrielle will transition into a tropical wind and rainstorm as it tracks toward Spain and Portugal.

Gabrielle spent several days as a powerful Category 4 hurricane over the central Atlantic earlier this week as it swung just east of Bermuda and turned to the East.

The hurricane has begun to lose wind intensity and was a 115-mph Category 3 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale as of Wednesday morning.

Gabrielle will track toward the Azores, a group of islands and popular tourist destination. The islands are home to just under 250,000 people.
