Owen Sound is directing more funds towards the removal of hazard trees on public lands within the city.
At its meeting on Monday council approved a staff recommendation to allocate an anticipated 2025 operating surplus of $180,000 towards the removal of very high and high hazard trees this fall. The additional funds are expected to allow for the removal of approximately 288 trees, though the actual final number will be based on tender amounts.

Coun. Marion Koepke said it is very important to stay ahead of the issue, highlighting that the investment would significantly reduce the city’s exposure to tree-related claims and public safety risks.
“I think we need to stay ahead of the game, knowing that there is a lot more on the list,” said Koepke.
