President Donald Trump's Justice Department is expected to announce the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey this week, MSNBC's Ken Dilanian and Carol Leonnig reported Wednesday.

"Former FBI Director James Comey, for years the target of President Trump’s ire, is expected to be indicted in the coming days in the Eastern District of Virginia, where a prosecutor who opposed bringing the case was recently fired, three sources familiar with the matter told MSNBC," wrote Dilanian on X.

"The full extent of the charges being prepared against Comey is unclear, but the sources believe that at least one element of the indictment—if it goes forward--will accuse him of lying to Congress during his testimony on September 30, 2020, about whether he authorized a leak of information. The five-year statute of limitations on that charge would lapse on Tuesday," Oct. 1, 2025, he added.

“We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post that was addressed to “Pam,” presumably meaning Attorney General Pam Bondi, earlier this week, urging action against several foes including Comey.

Comey was fired by Trump in 2017 during the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. The abrupt termination raised significant questions about potential obstruction of justice. Trump has attacked him multiple times since.

“They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!” Trump also said.

Trump also demanded that New York Attorney General Letitia James and Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) also be indicted, though he has yet to cite which crimes they committed.
