Srinagar, Sept 24: The violence in Ladakh that claimed four lives on Wednesday was not a spontaneous outburst but “deliberately engineered”, sources said, alleging that the region’s youth were misled by narrow political interests and personal ambitions.

According to sources, the Centre had already scheduled a meeting of the High Powered Committee (HPC) on October 6 to deliberate on issues raised by the Apex Body of Leh (ABL) and the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA). The Centre, they said, had also agreed to the inclusion of new members to the HPC as proposed by the ABL. After requests for preponement, meetings around September 25–26 were under consideration.
