KINGSTON, N,.Y. — U.S. Rep. Josh RIley is pushing federal legislation that, if enacted, would make sure that workers who vote to form a union don’t have to wait years to obtain their first contract.
Riley, D-Ithaca, who represents the 19th Congressional District, is a co-sponsor of a bipartisan bill known as the Faster Labor Contracts Act .
Riley’s office said the bill requires employers to start bargaining within 10 days of a union vote. If no agreement is reached in 90 days, talks move to mediation, the office said.
If mediation fails within 30 days, the dispute heads to binding arbitration to lock in a fair first contract, a press release said.
