WASKOM, Texas — An East Texas man has been arrested and is accused of holding a woman against her will.

Waskom Police responded to an assault at Hood Apartments, on 725 W. Texas Ave. in Waskom Tuesday. Officers made contact with a female victim who reported she was held against her will by a Xavier Cooks and was physically assaulted, choked and threatened with a firearm.

The victim said she was able to escape and asked a nearby neighbor for help. Officers observed visible injuries consistent with her account of the incident. She was brought to a local hospital for treatment.

Officers later made contact with Cooks at his residence. He was detained and interviewed by police. Officers conducted a search of his apartment with Cooks' permission and located suspected methamphetamine.
