MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- A body was found in a burned Marlboro County home, authorities said on Wednesday.

The Marlboro County Sheriff's Office assisted the Bennettsville Fire Department in responding to a fire on Dupre Road in the Bennettsville area, deputies said. When they arrived, authorities found a dead person inside the home, which appeared to have been uninhabited for an extended period.

Investigators have requested the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division's arson unit to assist, because the home was without power, the sheriff's office said. Coroner De'Aron Smith is also assisting to determine a cause of death.
