CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Another K-9 officer in Cranston will soon be outfitted with a protective vest, and the police department says this one will pay tribute to a K-9 that died last year.
Major Todd Patalano said the new vest will go to K-9 Tyr and be embroidered with the message, "In Memory of K-9 Zeus, Cranston, R.I. – EOW 5/4/24."
K-9 Zeus was actively serving the department when he suddenly died of an unexpected illness in May 2024. He was 9 years old.
The new vest was donated by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The nonprofit's mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests to law enforcement and other agencies nationwide.
Earlier this month, the organization donated a vest to Cranston K-9 Officer Odin.
Tyr's vest will be custom-fitted and certified by the National Institute
