UNION COUNTY, N.C. — The family of Malcolm Staton, a 30-year-old father who was shot and killed by a Union County Sheriff’s deputy in 2022, has settled their lawsuit with Union County for $3.25 million which includes $2,437,500 for Mr. Staton’s estate and $812,500 for Cree Faulkner, his girlfriend who was in the car with him at the time of the shooting, according to The Cochran Firm.
Staton was shot and killed in a gas station parking lot March 15, 2022 as he attempted to navigate his way around several deputies’ vehicles, according to the law firm.
According to Staton’s family and surveillance video captured on security cameras at the gas station, he never posed a risk to the deputies and they shot him in the head as he drove away with his girlfriend and two of their children in the car
