A man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a Central City shooting that left 59-year-old Willie Lemar Jr. dead earlier this week, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
Wallace Gilmore, 49, was apprehended in the 3000 block of Freret Street and will be booked into the Orleans Parish jail on a count of second-degree murder, police said. Police did not say what evidence led to his arrest.
Gilmore is accused of shooting Lemar on Monday, which police records show was Gilmore's birthday. Police were called just before noon to the 2700 block of Lasalle Street, where officers found Lemar wounded. He died later at the hospital, police said.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office said Wednesday that Lemar died of injuries caused by a gunshot wound.
