HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - A mother who just lost her son is running her first marathon in his honor.

When Courtney Luyando runs the Eversource Hartford Marathon next month, she will also be helping a charity that supported her family during the most difficult time.

Luyando has run two half marathons in the past. She says she didn’t really think about running a full marathon, but now, it’s what’s driving her.

“With a cancer diagnosis, your world stops. My world stopped, that was it. But the rest of the world goes on,” Luyando said.

Everything shattered when she learned her 12-year-old son, Grayson, had cancer. Grayson was starting seventh grade last fall, but he was exhausted, had a low grade fever, and was dizzy.
