INDIANAPOLIS — Every year, organizations that fight hunger, such as Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana , rely on the USDA's Household Food Security Reports.
It tracks food insecurity across the nation, but the USDA says they'll stop collecting the data.
"That's critical to us allocating resources and assessing programming so it really is devastating," said Gleaners CEO Fred Glass.
Glass told 13News he thought when the USDA made the announcement it was a joke.
"I thought it was from The Onion or something. I mean, it was so surprising that I almost thought it wasn't true, because it's unimaginable that this report has been the gold standard for 30 years from the government under Republican administrations, Democratic administrations was being thrown out," he said.
