AUSTIN, Texas — A new candidate has placed their name in the running to become Texas' next governor.
On Wednesday, Independent Democrat Andrew White announced his bid to replace Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in 2026.
In a media release shared Wednesday, White said he wants to put an end to "culture wars" and shift the focus to schools, infrastructure and hospitals.
"After 30 years in office, Governor Abbott is the architect of these culture wars and responsible for the state of our schools, hospitals and infrastructure," he stated in the release. "He should be playing pickle ball, not politics."
This is his second time running for governor after losing in the Democratic primary runoff seven years ago.
White isn't the first candidate running to unseat Abbott, either. He joins Democratic r
