In our Constitution's 250th year, our democracy is in peril. I am not exaggerating for effect. The stakes are that high. The reaction to Mr. Charlie Kirk, the conservative political activist, being gunned down while fielding questions from college students is a warning we should heed.

New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said, "The assassination of Charlie Kirk risks an uncorking of political chaos and violence that we cannot risk in America." I don't think I've ever agreed with Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, but those words resonated.
