NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) - Connecticut’s governor demanded that Nexstar return Jimmy Kimmel to the airwaves in the state.

ABC/Disney returned the late night show host to television on Tuesday night following a suspension over comments he made about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

His monologue garnered more than 23 million views on YouTube.

He also scored some big ratings points despite blackouts in many markets, including in Connecticut.

Nexstar, which owns Connecticut’s ABC affiliate WTNH, continued to resist putting Kimmel back on its local stations.

Channel 3 asked Gov. Ned Lamont about it.

“I think if you’re a champion of free speech, you want to make sure government does not get in the way,” Lamont said. “And corporations shouldn’t say what is appropriate
