Former Detroit Tigers outfielder Derek Hill has switched teams in the final week of the season.
Hill, 29, was reinstated from the injured list and then designated for assignment by the Miami Marlins earlier this week. He was claimed off waivers by the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday .
A first-round pick by Detroit in 2014 (23rd overall), Hill was known for his blazing speed and standout defense. He made his major league debut in the COVID-shortened 2020 season and appeared in parts of the next two years with the Tigers.
After being designated for assignment by Detroit in 2022, Hill was claimed by the Seattle Mariners and spent the remainder of that season with their Triple-A affiliate. He signed a minor-league deal with the Washington Nationals the following year, logging 50 plate
