A Brooklyn man was accused of robbing a gas station in the Town of Newburgh on Sept. 24.

Town of Newburgh police said the Mobil station at 91 Route 17K reported being robbed around 8:50 a.m. that day.

Police said their initial investigation revealed Reiny A. Tavares, 38, of Brooklyn, robbed the gas station and threatened an employee with a knife.

Police did not specify what was allegedly stolen.

Tavares left the scene before police arrived. Officers searched the area and located Tavares a short time later on Route 17K.

Tavares was charged with first-degree robbery and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies; and second-degree menacing and petit larceny, both misdemeanors.

Tavares was arraigned before Newburgh City Court Judge Anika Mohammed and sent to the Orange
