Filip Hallander’s on-again, off-again Penguins career has felt like the meme where Grandpa Simpson walks in, takes a quick look around, then heads right back out the door.
The last time Hallander left Pittsburgh, it was his call. He’s cited family reasons.
But the winger is back in the organization for a third stint, and after a successful run in the Swedish Hockey League, Hallander is eying a permanent stay in Pittsburgh.
Hallander is firmly in the mix for one of the final forward spots on the NHL roster, and he feels he’s far more prepared to nab one of those than he was two years ago.
“Played big minutes, a lot of leadership on me, a lot of pressure. But it was a good time to grow both on and off the ice as a person,” the 25-year-old said Wednesday.
