The Scotch Plains community is mourning the loss of a 13-year-old boy who was struck and killed Wednesday afternoon while riding his e-bike.

Nico Lombardi, 13, was hit by a landscaping truck at the intersection of Mountain and Mountainview avenues. He was rushed to University Hospital in Newark with critical injuries but later died, officials said. No charges have been filed as of Thursday.

“Yesterday, beloved Nico Lombardi was tragically taken from us far too soon in a devastating bike and motor vehicle accident,” a GoFundMe page created for his family says. “Nico’s sudden passing has left his family and friends heartbroken and in shock.”
