FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The University of Arkansas will expand its family study resources with a $150,000 gift from the Schmieding Foundation.

The funding will improve the Schmieding Foundation Family Study Space in Mullins Library and support the university’s Curriculum Materials and Children’s Literature collections for elementary and secondary education programs, according to a news release.

The university estimates about 1,000 students are parents or caretakers.

The study space, created in 2022, is a dedicated area for student parents and caregivers to study while their children engage in educational play.

The donation will fund new furniture, interactive play items, and the addition of a mother’s room and a "calming room" with sensory-friendly features. Family backpack ki
