[JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa] — Cindy Elder, accused of killing her baby decades ago, has been extradited from a jail in Missouri and is now in the Johnson County Jail in Iowa.

The case dates back to December 1992 when the baby was found in the Iowa City landfill.

Investigators say Elder admitted to giving birth in Iowa City and said the baby was alive at the time but claimed she did not know how the baby died.

Officials have identified Elder as the mother through advancements in DNA testing. Her next hearing is yet to be scheduled.
