PHOENIX (AZFamily/AP) — After months-long delays, a jury convicted an Arizona man on Thursday for a spree of murders , including the killing of his parents, nearly a decade ago.
Cleophus Cooksey Jr. was convicted on eight murder charges in connection to the deadly 2017 shootings. Cooksey’s trial had been delayed repeatedly due to the pandemic.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Cooksey.
Over a three-week span from November to December 2017, eight people were murdered in the Phoenix and Glendale areas. Cooksey allegedly knew some of the victims, but others were strangers.
Parker Smith and Andrew Remillard were the first victims; shot and killed while sitting inside of a car in a parking lot. Five days later, security guard Salim Richards was shot on the way to his gir
