NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans' 911 agency says that emergency call services have been restored following an outage that affected parts of Louisiana and Mississippi Thursday afternoon.
The disruption, which began around 1 p.m., was caused by a major fiber optic cable cut in Mississippi, according to Orleans Parish Communications Director Karl Fasold. Fasold said there was no indication that the outage was intentional or malicious.
During the outage, some calls were misrouted or failed to connect—particularly for users on Verizon, AT&T FirstNet, and certain other carriers. Most calls from T-Mobile and AT&T Mobility were able to go through.
Emergency services maintained communication using ASTRO 25, a statewide radio system. Backup numbers were issued by several cities and parishes, but reside
