PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A man convicted earlier this year of killing a work colleague in Providence learned his fate on Thursday.

Shawn Slaughter, 57, of Midfield, Alabama, was sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of 51-year-old Eric Campbell in late July 2024.

The shooting happened around 1 a.m. outside the Walmart on Silver Spring Street. At the time, police said it appeared to have stemmed from a fight between the two men, who were at the store to work on the floors.

Officers arrived to find Campbell shot inside a box truck. He later died at the hospital.
