Oklahoma's John Mateer provides major update on right-hand injury

Oklahoma Sooners quarterback John Mateer shared an optimistic update on Thursday following surgery on his right hand.

Mateer tweeted , "Thank God for a successful procedure. Dr. Shin is the GOAT. BOOMER SOONER!!"

Mateer underwent surgery to address a broken bone in his right throwing hand sustained during the Sooners' 24-17 win over the Auburn Tigers last weekend. The surgery was performed by renowned hand specialist Dr. Steven Shin , with Oklahoma's coaching staff hopeful for a return later this season.

According to coach Brent Venables, the QB is expected to miss "some game action" and "return to action sometime this season."
