Wiltshire Police has reported an outage in their control room, meaning the 101 telephone line is currently out.
Emergency calls are also facing slight delays, the force said, but they stressed that emergency calls will be answered.
They wrote: ‘The 101 function of our website is still operational and anyone wishing to report a crime not in progress should follow the link in the comment section of this post.
‘Work is rapidly ongoing to bring the telephone service back online. Thank you for your patience.’
Despite the worrying outage, one woman found the humour in the situation: ‘999 calls answered with a delay advertised, every criminal’s dream to be notified of this.’ It comes as earlier today, emergency call access went completely out in two US states – Louisiana and Mississippi.
