Intimate-partner violence reported

Belleville Police have charged two men with assault in separate cases of intimate-partner violence in the city’s east end.

The most recent complaint came at 12:06 a.m. Thursday.

“It was reported that a verbal argument led to a male grabbing a female by the neck and slapping her,” a police news release stated. Police arrested a Belleville man, later releasing him pending an undisclosed court date in November.

It was the second such call in about five hours.

Upon police arrival, the release stated, “it was reported that a verbal argument escalated, resulting in a male assaulting a female by hitting and choking her. It was further reported that the victim was pushed into a door while holding their child, causing both to strike their heads.” Police arres
