RED HOOK — RED HOOK HAS BEEN DUBBED the coolest neighborhood citywide by TimeOut, ranking 14th worldwide in the magazine’s annual list. The waterfront enclave won praise for its mix of history, art and community spirit , from cobblestone streets and long-standing eateries like Defonte’s to cultural anchors such as Pioneer Works. Though harder to reach than other neighborhoods, Red Hook draws visitors with its galleries, breweries, and the famed Steve’s Key Lime Pie shop. Flatbush and Fort Greene topped the list in recent years.
Editors said the rankings highlight neighborhoods that capture “the soul of our cities” while keeping unique local character.
