HANCOCK COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT) - North Hancock Elementary School hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the launch of Hancock County's first Kentucky Mesonet Weather Station.

The Kentucky Mesonet collects real-time weather data that supports forecasting, emergency response, agriculture and public health. Data is transmitted every five minutes to Western Kentucky University, and is used by agencies like the National Weather Service.

Officials say the new station will enhance safety, and help communities make better-informed decisions.
