PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The man accused of shooting and killing twin brothers Alvin and Calvin Joyner more than two years ago have been found guilty Thursday on two counts of first-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding.

Closing arguments in the case against Joseph Cross wrapped up a little before three Thursday afternoon, and the jury came back with a verdict soon after.

"We disagree with the verdict," said defense attorney Nathan Chapman. "We think the facts as they were presented should have led to a different conclusion."

The guilty verdict comes six months after a mistrial had been declared in the case, with the court finding there had been a conflict with one of the attorneys for Cross.

Prosecutors told the jury the evidence against Cross is overwhelming.
