The Forest Acres Planning commission has unanimously voted to rezone the area where Richland Mall used to stand.

At its meeting Tuesday, on a 5-1 vote the commission approved to change the lot from a Commercial Enterprise/Redevelopment Zone to a Planned Development District (PDD). With the change, developer Southeastern will provide the commission and the Forest Acres City Council with a more detailed plan, laying out what can be built in each area of the lot.

The goal is for the new development is to be sustainable, and with the new zoning delegation, it will allow the city approve each significant change that the developer proposes. The plan is for the project to be completed in three phases.
