WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- A man who pleaded no contest last month on multiple charges, including rape of a child, has been sentenced.
Jaime Torres-Cordero also pleaded no contest to three counts of aggravated indecent solicitation of a child. He was sentenced on Thursday in Sedgwick County District Court to 16 years and 7 months in prison, followed by lifetime post-release supervision. He will have to register as a sex offender.
The crimes involved a victim who was younger than 14 years old when the abuse began and continued over a six-year period. Torres-Cordero was arrested and charged back in 2021.
Court records indicate that the case was delayed for years due to a series of continuances granted to both Torres-Cordero's legal team and the prosecutors assigned to the case, which ultimat
