The sunrise was beautiful.

The sound that went with it, not so much.

The one good thing about the days getting shorter is that getting out the door to greet the rising sun gets easier every day. So by 6:15 a.m., with Venus still bright in the eastern sky, I had my gear in the truck and the key in the ignition, ready to go.

I turned the key, the starter engaged. And the motor barely turned over. It made a oo-ee-oo sound as it slowly cranked but, fortunately, the spark plugs sparked, the fuel caught fire and the motor roared to life.

This has happened a couple of times over the last week or so but the engine has always started so I didn’t pay much attention to it. Once it was running, everything worked as it should so I just kept going. This morning, though, the slow cranking was a bit o
