Norwood police are investigating a Wednesday afternoon shooting that left one person hospitalized.

The shooting occurred around 5 p.m. near Columbine and Woodbine roads, the Norwood Police Department said in a statement. Multiple 911 calls reported gunfire, as well as a car and three individuals fleeing from the scene, the statement said.

When officers arrived, the area was empty. However, minutes later, another 911 call reported a shooting victim in a car at a gas station about 2 miles away, near the intersection of Dean Street and Route 1.

Norwood police and firefighters responded to the scene and provided first aid before the victim was transported to a local hospital, the statement said.
