Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana in Bihar on Friday, aiming to empower women through self-employment and livelihood opportunities. During the virtual event, he transferred ₹10,000 each to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women, amounting to a total of ₹7,500 crore injected into the state's economy.
PM Modi described the initiative as a significant step towards making women self-reliant, stating, "When women progress, entire families and villages progress. This is a festival of empowerment." He emphasized that the scheme would help create numerous micro-enterprises run by women, enhancing their economic status and contributing to Bihar's development.
The Prime Minister interacted with several beneficiaries who shared their success stories. Ranjeeta Kazi from West Champaran expressed her gratitude for the improvements in her village, including better roads and education. She plans to invest her funds in farming and a flour business. Reeta Devi from Bhojpur shared her journey from goat farming to running a successful poultry business, crediting various government schemes for her family's improved living conditions.
Nurjahan Khatoon from Gaya, who leads a self-help group, mentioned her plans to expand her tailoring business with the new funds. Putul Devi from Purnea also expressed her intention to grow her sweet-making business and create more jobs.
The scheme, originally announced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, aims to support women in starting businesses such as grocery stores, poultry farming, and more. PM Modi highlighted the importance of the Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile (JAM) trinity in facilitating direct benefit transfers, ensuring that funds reach beneficiaries without loss.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to empower women, with the goal of creating three crore women earning over ₹1 lakh annually across India. PM Modi noted that over 50 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Bihar are registered in women's names, showcasing the government's commitment to women's welfare.
The launch event was attended by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other officials, and it was viewed live by over one crore women across the state, marking a historic moment for women's empowerment in Bihar.
