A new research study reveals how far a $1 million nest egg will go in America’s most popular retirement towns — and three communities in Arizona are standing out. Wellton, Star Valley, and Quartzite rank No. 29, No. 24 and No. 4 for nest egg longevity, respectively — beating out cities in Florida, California, and the Carolinas.

To determine how long retirement savings will last, GOBankingRates analyzed each town’s cost of living, average expenses for retirees, and typical mortgage payments — with an added 20% cushion to reflect a truly comfortable lifestyle.

Key findings for $1 million retirement

Comfortable Retirement Cost – Retirees in Quartzite need approximately $45,244 annually to live comfortably without Social Security, $69,118 in Star Valley, and $50,926 in Wellton.
