Beshear's comments came in response to a Courier Journal question about what his message was to residents of Trigg and Robertson counties who want him to take action on their convicted sheriffs.

Those sheriffs were featured in a recent Courier Journal investigation that found that one in six Kentucky counties has had a sheriff criminally charged or convicted since 2010.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear defended his decision to not initiate removal proceedings against sheriffs criminally convicted of crimes while in office, saying during a Sept. 25 press conference that a governor-initiated removal of a sheriff has only been successfully executed once since Kentucky’s founding.
