Environmental and education activist Sonam Wangchuk has been arrested by the Ladakh Police in Leh under the NSA. He is alleged of instigated violence in money laundering. National Security Act (NSA) is a law that is non-bailable, and one can face 12 months in jail without trial.

Wangchuk's arrest comes two days after protests demanding statehood and special constitutional protections for Ladakh turned violent, resulting in the deaths of four people. Wangchuk and other protest leaders have been accused of inciting the violence.

Wangchuk was arrested under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) for allegedly inciting protesters with "provocative statements". and money laundering.
